Summer can be a trying time for those who are suffering from low self-confidence or struggling with body-image issues. Magazine covers, trips to the beach and even our own wardrobe from last summer can be an unwelcome reminder that we do, indeed, have imperfections .
Guess what? Everybody does. So don't let your insecurities get the best of you and follow these four easy steps to instantly start feeling great in your skin.
1. Get rid of ill-fitting clothes
No matter how beautiful a dress is, if you feel self-conscious every time you wear it, get rid of it. Throw away the clothes that are too tight, to baggy, too stiff, too uncomfortable, and even the ones that are just not doing you any favors. Promise yourself to only wear things that are the right size and fit and that make you feel like your best you.
2. Surprise yourself with something new
After methodically weeding through your wardrobe, you'll probably need a few new pieces. Retail therapy, when used in moderation, can be a great way to boost your self-esteem, find motivation and see yourself in a new light.
3. Pamper yourself
A massage, a facial or a manicure can do wonders for your emotional well-being, mental health and self-confidence. Such a small thing, but it never fails to work! Doing something nice for yourself is the first step in loving and accepting yourself the way you are.
4. Make a plan
If there is something that's truly bothering you in the way you look and it's something that can be changed, figure out what you can do about it and make a plan. Even just having the plan in place will make you feel like you are in control and allow you to relax and love yourself, imperfections and all.
