It's that time of year. Preparations for festive dinners are well underway, travel arrangements are being made, and most of us are excited to spend time with our family and remind ourselves of all the amazing things we can be grateful for.
While we are busy organizing, shopping, researching recipes and mentally preparing for the holiday weekend, it's easy to forget about picking out an outfit for Thanksgiving dinner. It is always a good idea to think your look through well in advance, so you still have time to buy something new should you need it.
But what kind of outfit is the best choice for the occasion?
Thanksgiving is a family holiday, so there is no need to dress up formally in most cases, but you should still choose your look carefully if you want to honor the occasion, show respect to your family, feel great and maybe impress that aunt you haven't seen since 2008.
A tea-length dress is almost always a good choice, but remember that the day is long and the food is abundant, so go with a stretchy fabric or a comfortable knit.
If you have no idea what to wear, a white shirt is your jolly joker - but instead of wearing it with a skirt suit and a pair of pearl earrings like you'd do on a workday, you can experiment with statement accessories like bib necklaces, chandelier earrings. or cocktail rings.
A sweater and a pair of stylish pants make for a laid back but elegant outfit. Comfort is key, and nothing is as comfortable as a soft cashmere sweater or grandma's chunky knits, but if you can avoid it, don't wear jeans for Thanksgiving. There are so many dressier options to choose from: velvet, corduroy, wool or silk pants will show your sense of style without looking too stuffy or too casual.
Thanksgiving is a very "forgiving" occasion, so you are free to experiment with your style and try new looks, but no matter what you choose to wear, make sure you feel amazing in it!
